🐣💐 Easter Break Fun! 💐🐣

Easter time has arrived! We hope that you’re enjoying your well-deserved two weeks off from school. For those of you who have travelled home or are travelling home, we hope you have a safe journey and enjoy your time with your loved ones. For those who have family visiting, we hope that you make the most of your time together here in Ireland. And lastly, for those who have decided to stay with us here for the break, we have plenty of activities planned to keep you busy! 😊 See our midterm social programme poster below. If you see any activities, you’re interested in joining, please let us know!

For those of you who are here in Ireland and would like something to do over the weekend, here are some suggestions of places that you can see and learn a bit more about Irish history and the significance of Easter in Irish history and culture.

• You can visit the GPO Museum (O’Connell Street Lower, Dublin 1) where you can learn about the 1916 rising & modern Irish History.
• You could visit Kilmainham Gaol (“Jail” Inchicore Road, Dublin 8). Which is a monument to the struggle for Irish independence, where you can further learn about momentous events in Irish history.

Here are some Easter fun facts! Have you ever wondered why we give each other chocolate eggs? Or how did the Easter Bunny become a part of Easter celebrations? The use of eggs and bunnies as symbols of Easter also derived from pre-Christian rites when painted bird eggs were given at springtime as a symbol of fertility and rebirth.

Early Christians saw the image of the egg as symbolising the empty tomb of Jesus, and the ‘hatching’ of the egg to illustrate Jesus Christ being reborn. The Easter Bunny originally stemmed from German folklore, where a rabbit or hare brought children colourful eggs on the eve of the holiday. Bunnies and eggs both represented fertility in paganism and presently in the western world, became associated with children’s characters games and confectionary! 🍫🐰🐣🌼
