How was Halloween? - High School in Ireland

Halloween week left us with a lot of moments to remember. Don’t you think so?

We had a great time during the party last week, we ate lots of sweets, listened to great music and saw some great costumes from some of the students.

This week we got to say goodbye to Halloween with some very exciting activities. Some of you carved some amazing pumpkins and we were glad to see such cool photos! As part of our midterm social programme, we visited St Michan’s Crypt on Tuesday to see some real-life mummies! On Wednesday we went to Glendalough and Kilkenny and had a great day out – the day started off very wet and miserable but it finally cleared up in the afternoon! On Thursday we had a Scavenger Hunt in the City Centre and then on Friday, we had an “epic” adventure in the EPIC Museum.

We’ll tell you a bit about the places… St Michan’s Crypt. Beneath the church, through large metal chained doors and down a narrow stone staircase, are burial vaults containing the mummified remains of many of Dublin’s most influential families of the 17th, 18th, and 19th centuries.

Glendalough means “valley of the two lakes”. It is a glacial valley in County Wicklow, Ireland, known for an early medieval monastic settlement founded in the 6th century by St. Kevin. Kilkenny. The name Kilkenny has its origins in the Irish language. Cill Chainnigh translates to ‘Church of Cainnech’. It is named after the 6th-century Irish priest St. Cainneach, also known as Canice, whose memory is honoured in St. Canice’s Cathedral in Kilkenny City.

The EPIC Museum of Irish Emigration in Dublin tells the story of Irish emigration and the Irish people in other countries. The world of art, science, politics, sport… All aspects related to emigration are present in this museum whose music probably makes the most influential contribution.

We are currently in autumn, so rain and cold weather will be more common, so we recommend not forgetting an umbrella and waterproof coats!
