We recently caught up with high school student Elisabeth Strumpel. Elisabeth is enrolled in 4th year (transition year) at St. Mary’s school, Baldoyle, for term 1 2023. Baldoyle is located by the sea in Dublin’s north side. St. Mary’s School is a wonderful all-girls school. Here is what Elisabeth has to say about her time in Ireland

1) What’s your favourite thing about ISI and our programme?
– very well organised
– very welcoming
– really enjoyed the orientation day as it was well planned and gave me an opportunity to meet other students, and to help settle me in
2) Did you feel supported by ISI?
– Yes absolutely! I was regularly contacted by my coordinator Maebh and felt like I could contact her about anything. We also would meet with our coordinator at least once a month for a chat and a general catch up.
3) Tell me about your host family experience?
– My host family were amazing! We talked a lot which made me improve my English, and they included me in everything that they did. We sat down at the dinner table every day and spoke about our day which was really nice. I’m an only child, so to go to a house with children was a nice change for me, and one that I really enjoyed.
4) So, Elisabeth, you’re used to a mix school in Germany is that correct?
– ‘That’s correct’.
Tell me, how did a single sex school differ, and what made you choose one?
– I wanted to see what an all-girls school was like, and it took me by surprise in a positive way. The girls were all very kind, it was a lovely environment, and it was quieter in class which made me learn more. If in doubt, I would recommend trying out the single sex school’s if possible.
5) Finally, what would you say to someone who’s considering studying in Ireland with ISI?
– I would highly recommend it! From ISI to the school and to the host family, I loved it all. The Irish people are very kind, open and friendly, and this experience has made me really grow.
