Halloween is coming, are you prepared? - High School in Ireland

Not sure if you knew this, but…. The celebration of Halloween began in Ireland around 100 AD or so. At that time Halloween was a pagan festival celebrated by the Celts using the name Samhain, an ancient Gaelic word that means “the end of the harvest”.

The origin of the festival here in Ireland is not so much about religion or horror movies, it is more of a celebration. So, we are looking forward to having a great time at the Halloween party on Wednesday 26th October.

For your records… on the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, the end of the harvest was a time of celebration for the Irish to gather and share the fruits of their work. Some of today’s most famous Halloween dishes derive from this tradition. For example, colcannon, a simple warm dish made with mashed potatoes and mixed with kale or green cabbage and onions, has become popular around the world at this time of year.
