Happy Halloween!

Everyone seems to have enjoyed their midterm break – lots of sleeping in and meeting up with friends! We hope you all had a safe and spooky Halloween!

Did you know that Halloween actually began in Ireland? Its origins are from pagan Ireland over 3,000 years ago – a time when the ancient festival of Samhain was celebrated in the heart of Ireland’s Ancient East. This festival was held to mark the beginning of winter.

Halloween is supposed to be a time where our world and the otherworld are closest, and therefore spirits and demons can easily pass between the two worlds! Spooky!

Some Irish traditions at Halloween include – barmbrack. You’ll find this bread in every Irish household at Halloween. If you find the missing golden ring within the loaf, tradition says that you’ll be married in the next year! We also love playing traditional Halloween games. The most famous is snap apple, where an apple is suspended from a string while the blindfolded individuals try to get a bite. You can also try bobbing for apples in water, and even dipping your apples in melted chocolate! Then, we all get dressed up and go trick or treating!
