Weekend Wanderings: Cathedrals, Parks, and Squirrels in Dublin

Dublin’s charm comes alive in autumn—cathedrals, cozy parks, and the simple joy of strolling through sunlit streets with friends

High School Programme Ambassador – Marie, Belgium

Hi, my name is Marie, and I am from Belgium. I am currently in Dublin as an exchange student for four months. I am 15 years old, and I am in fifth year at CBS Westland Row. During weekdays, I don’t do a lot of stuff apart from going to school, but on the weekends, I like to visit the city or the countryside with my host sisters and some friends. This weekend, we went to the center of Dublin to explore a bit.

Cathedral

Dublin’s Cathedrals

I started the day by having breakfast with my host sisters. After that, we worked a bit for school and then took the bus to the city center. We met some friends and bought a sandwich to eat in the park. We were lucky because it was a sunny day, so we wanted to enjoy it. After a good lunch, it was time to start our visit. We walked to the Christ Church Cathedral and St. Patrick’s Cathedral. They were both gorgeous. We didn’t go inside because the entrance wasn’t free, but we really liked them nonetheless.

Exploring Iveagh Gardens as an exchange student

Because of the good weather, we decided to walk to another park, the Iveagh Gardens. It was very big and beautiful. Autumn is starting, so the trees were turning orange, and the leaves had started to fall. That color gives a special beauty to the park. We went into the labyrinth and saw what makes this park so special: the waterfall. There were also a lot of cute squirrels and a monument dedicated to people defending human rights. I really recommend this garden if you have time in Dublin; we had a great time there.

Cozy ending of a autumny day

To finish the day right, we decided to get a hot chocolate at a coffee shop because, even though it was sunny, it was still quite cold. After that, we went back home, had dinner, and watched a movie with my host sisters.
