Halloween Dublin 2023

We hope you are all in great spirits as we approach the spookiest time of the year!

Ireland has a unique way of celebrating Halloween, and we would like to share some of these with you.

Bonfires and Fireworks: Traditionally, Halloween in Ireland was marked by the lighting of bonfires and the setting off of fireworks. This practice is not as common nowadays but is a nod to the holiday’s history.

Costumes and Jack-O’-Lanterns: Just like in many other countries, Irish people love to dress up in creative costumes. They also have a tradition of carving pumpkins into Jack-O’-Lanterns, often with spooky faces, to ward off evil spirits.

Trick or Treating: Children go door-to-door, dressed in costume, asking for treats. It’s all in good fun, and nobody wants to play tricks!

Colcannon and Barmbrack: Traditional Irish Halloween foods include Colcannon (mashed potatoes with cabbage) and Barmbrack (a fruity bread), both of which may contain hidden charms or items with special meanings.

The Puca: The Puca is a mischievous spirit in Irish folklore that is said to come out during Halloween. It’s always a good idea to be wary of the Puca’s pranks!
